One of the things Bowen is famous for is its many fabulous beaches. These palm-fringed stretches of pristine sand are amongst the best in Australia.
Rose Bay – where the award-winning Rose Bay Resort is located – is one of the prettiest, offering fabulous views and plenty of space. Exploring the rock pools at low tide is a favourite with younger visitors.
Other beautiful bays and beaches include the Foreshore, Horseshoe Bay, Murrays Bay, Kings Beach and Queens Beach, and Grays Bay.
Bowen isn’t just about the beaches and islands, although they are magnificent! There are ample walking and cycling spots for those wishing to keep fit while on holidays.
For a good scenic walk with panoramic views, visit Mother Beddock Rock. It’s close to the Rose Bay Resort so just ask for directions at reception.
There are plenty of nature-based activities and attractions in the area, including bush tours and bird-watching and Cape Upstart National Park.

Bowen Water Park is a must for families, especially on a hot day. Packed with aquatic fun, it will keep the kids occupied for hours.
Bowen offers many great family-friendly activities, from the Summergarden Theatre at Queens Beach to local markets, the Big Mango, local arts and crafts, the Collinsville Coalface Experience, Bowen Museum, the Saltworks and the famous Murals.
There are 27 murals to discover throughout Bowen, all depicting the area’s diverse history, from early settlement to present day.
As you can imagine with so many stunning beaches and bays, the Whitsunday Islands and the reef, there’s no shortage of amazing water-based activities. These include boating, sailing and fishing trips, scuba diving and snorkelling through the onshore coral gardens.
One of the best places to go snorkelling is Rose Bay. Sheltered by two granite outcrops, you’ll discover coral gardens just a short swim from the beach – it’s a real haven for marine life! While you’re there, be sure to visit the Mother Beddock Lookout – the views are amazing!
